Critical thinking skill is one of the competencies that students require to have to master abstract mathematical knowledge including in online learning. The online learning in Mathematics Education Study Program of Universitas Negeri Medan was through a Learning Management System known as the Sistem Pembelajaran Daring (SIPDA). Based on the preliminary data, the online learning using SIPDA was still not sufficient to strengthen students' critical thinking skills to master the learning contents of Real Analysis. This study aims to develop electronic learning materials assisted by animated videos as a supporting system for the online learning of Real Analysis to improve students' critical thinking skills. The research design used is a 4-D development, consisting of Define, Design, Develop and Disseminate stages. The instruments used in this study are 1) the validation sheets, 2) the practicality and effectiveness assessment sheets of the use of electronic learning materials assisted by animated videos, 3) the practicality observation sheets on the use of electronic learning materials assisted by animated videos, 4) the tests of students' critical thinking skills, and 5) the questionnaire of students' responses. The results of this study are the valid, practical, and effective electronic learning materials assisted by animated videos to improve students' critical thinking skills in the online learning of Real Analysis. © 2022 American Institute of Physics Inc..
