Abstract

Job preparation skills of graduates of vocational education in particular Diploma Three mechanical engineering can be achieved through the development of a project-based training model. Output of project-based training in the form of application products. Producing application products would require the selection of effective and efficient projects and traine tools. Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunch (OPEFB) is waste from the Palm Oil Mill (POM) which is still widely open to be developed as a reinforcing material in composite materials. To achieve the objectives of this study, a OPEFB decomposition machine was required. The design of this OPEFB decomposition machine includes the main components, namely the chopping knife, the retaining knife, the decomposition and the filter to produce the OPEFB fiber. The manufacturing technology chosen in the design of this tool includes several working steps, namely cutting technology, machining, forming, joining, and assembly. The result obtained from this research activity is in the form of a OPEFB decomposition tool unit in OPEFB fiber. From all series of tool design activities in this research, it can be concluded that the resulting tools can function optimally in the production of OPEFB fiber and can be used as a project-based training device. © 2019, International Journal of Scientific and Technology Research.
