Abstract

The study aimed to determine the effect of the addition of carbon black (CB) and Oil Palm Empty Bunch Powder (OPBEP) as fillers in natural rubber compounds on mechanical, morphological, and XRD properties. The composting method is done at the open mill. The process of mixing natural rubber with additives and nano OPBEP and CB is carried out with variations (0; 2; 4; 6; 8) wt%. As a result of the study, tensile strength, elongation of break and hardness increased with the addition of OPBEP and CB fillers were obtained. XRD characterization showed a diffraction pattern for the compound with CB filler almost the same by intensity at the angle of 29 = 20°, while in the case of OPBEP filler, the intensity decreased with the addition of fillers from amorphous structures to semi-crystals. The morphology indicates homogeneous distribution of the compound and filler in the mixture. In general, a compound with OPBEP filler and CB can be used as a technical product that has higher mechanical properties. © 2020-STC "Institute for Single Crystals".
