Abstract

Transformation of particle size from micro to nano is an alternative strategy to enhance the reaction efficiency. Particle with smaller size will have high surface area and will have a high chance to involve in the reaction. The aim of this research was to transform cellulose pulp which has micron size to be cellulose nanopulp. Transformation was performed through an oxidation using NaIO4. Based on the analysis, microfibril of cellulose pulp was successfully transformed into a nanofibril cellulose pulp at the ratio 0.6 of NaIO4. The fibril diameter of the obtained nanopulp was 5-11 nm that obtained from TEM image. The effect of oxidation was confirmed using FT-IR, there were several changes of band that observed after oxidation. Thermal stability of cellulose was decrease after oxidation with value 110-350°C. © 2021 Author(s).
