Traditional fabrics are included in one of the local cultures that are traditionally made for customs purposes. One of the famous traditional fabrics in North Sumatra is the Malay songket. This cloth has various patterns and motifs, depending on the area where the songket is made. This study analyzed 22 North Sumatran Malay songket motifs based on frieze and crystallographic patterns. Based on the results of the study, 4 frieze patterns were found on 14 North Sumatran Malay songket motifs, namely pattern I, pattern 3, pattern 5, and Pattern 7. In addition, 5 crystallographic patterns on 8 North Sumatran Malay songket motifs, namely the pmm, p4g, p1, cmm and p4m patterns.
