Designing tasks that incorporate students' engagement, learning environment that allows for collaboration, and problem-solving approaches for online learning can be quite challenging. This paper presents a theoretical foundations of task design principles that developed through an iterative research design involving junior high school students and teachers. We discuss relationships between the task design, mathematical discourse, and the development of reasoning skills for the students. © 2022 American Institute of Physics Inc.. All rights reserved.
